Offering acupuncture treatment for cancer patients
complementary to conventional medical approach

Cancer Relief Care is a healing program based on acupuncture and other Chinese medical modalities, and is complementary to conventional medical protocol. This program promotes synergy between Western and Eastern medical treatments.
It has a goal to enhance a body's inherent abilities to heal, while helping to counterbalance side effects of conventional medical treatment.
Cancer Relief Care relies on extensive positive experience with many cancer patients.
Envisioned and designed by Stas Gavronsky, M.S., Lic. Ac., a leading expert in acupuncture medicine today, Cancer Relief Care program is offered through the Acupuncture Specialties Group. ASG is a group of highly trained licensed acupuncturists (prepared at least at the Master's degree level) with extra training in oncology and pain control.

nature As the medical establishment grows more accepting of complementary therapies, acknowledging their valuable contribution to the quality of life and better prognosis in the battle against cancer, Cancer Relief Care uses acupuncture and other related modalities to help cancer patients.

Cancer Relief Care provides an individualized approach to patient care based on the traditional Chinese diagnostic system refined by several thousand years of clinical experience. At the same time it seeks synergy with conventional medical treatment and strongly encourages close cooperation with the treating oncologist.
In our supportive and caring environment, we treat the patient's physical symptoms on both symptomatic and root levels and address each person's emotional and spiritual dimensions.

Symptomatic relief of the side effects of conventional treatment, as well as disease-related symptoms, is achieved through acupuncture and related modalities. We treat common complaints, including severe fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, pain, neuropathy, depression, etc., thus promoting better quality of life during and after conventional treatment.
Acupuncture and related modalities strengthen the body so that the patient can complete or continue the recommended course of chemotherapy and/or radiation.
Research in China suggests that acupuncture and moxibustion performed on specific points can help to increase the white blood cell count and to support immune system.

Root treatment works systemically by regulating and strengthening organs and balancing systems. According to acupuncture theory, root treatment also helps to eliminate imbalances that may have led to cancer - namely, stagnation of Qi (life force) and accumulation of toxins. Many modern acupuncturists implicate these two pathogens as factors leading to changes in normal pattern of cellular growth.

Emotional and spiritual support: Acupuncture and related therapies, such as moxibustion, help with depression and anxiety which can be side-effects of the conventional treatment, can be caused by the patient's reaction to a diagnosis of cancer, or both. Acupuncture helps the person deal with stress, which otherwise can suppress immunity even further. Emotional causes of the disease are of paramount importance in acupuncture.

Acupuncture and related modalities help the person on a spiritual level. Faced with a diagnosis of cancer, those patients who have strong spiritual and religious beliefs do better in dealing with new realities. Acupuncture has been traditionally used to strengthen one's spirit.

For patients in remission, acupuncture is recommended as a preventive treatment. Acupuncture helps to maintain a strong immune system, supports mental health, and promotes overall health.

"I believe that when trying to understand the complex issues of prevention and treatment of breast cancer, it is important that we take a look at the disease and its etiology from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). According to TCM, breast cancer, as well as many other malignances, is often a result of a gradual process that starts with a disruption of the flow of Qi (pronounced Chee)."

"Acupuncture is used to promote communication between systems in the body and have traditionally been used to address issues of Phlegm* and Blood accumulation*, to treat depression and anxiety, and, where possible, to eliminate toxins* present in the body. In supporting the communication between various systems and control mechanisms within the body, the treatment helps maintain homeostasis."

"In treating cancer acupuncture and herbs are used to counterbalance the damaging effects of chemotherapy, thus helping the body to heal itself."

"TCM treatment helps to support the immune system, neutralize the negative effects of chemotherapy treatment, and protect the digestive system. Importantly, the health of the digestive system is particularly crucial given that people with cancer tend to take many medicines orally and need proper absorption of drugs and foods."
